Question:

Why when i fight i hesitate to throw a punch?

im 16 haven't been in many fight but i take a martial arts and me and my friend where doing body shots and i see open places to hit but i just hesitate and don't punch or don't punch first i wait tell the other person dose first. but i antecedently hooked him in the face a couple times and i had no problem doing that. so i was wondering why is that i hesitate

  1. It's most natural.  Of course, you wanna make sure that there is an opening for the punch you're gonna throw.  Some fighters, especially counterpunchers, do wait for their opponents to throw   first before countering right away.  So I'd say it's just alright though you must also go on the offensive once in a while.  You wouldn't want to be known as Mr. Hesitation, would you?


  2. your afraid to get counter punched i had the same problem, sometimes you just gotta let them bombs go and make sure they count. also what i did was let the opponent land a few shots, they start to think thats where the money is and they keep throwin that same shot and when you think you have their timing down throw your punch and catch them completely off guard.

  3. There can be a number of reason.

    The one I will go with is, because you take some form of martial arts I am sure you were taught to fight in self-defense. In most forms of martial arts it is all about reacting to what your opponent does.

    Plus most people don't want to get hit, you want to counter act what the person in front of you is doing.
