Why when i hook up my new composite cables, the color is messed up?

when i hook up my new hdtv certified composite cables i just bought, the color is messed up.ive played around with the picture settings like color, tint, sharpness, and nothing seems to work

I assume you mean component cables (Red, green, and blue).

Make sure that the colors of the cables on both the 'source" and the 'TV" do match. Outside of brightness and contrast you should never have to adjust color and tint.
