Why? - when me and a mate sit on the grass there are always loads of flies around me and not him.?

You need to spray your hair and neck with some insect repelant.

There are several things it could be:

Is your friend a smoker?  Flies etc. do tend to steer clear of f*g smoke.

He may have a diet richer in vitamin B than you do - flying insects do appear to avoid people like that - I think they must smell less appetising.

Do YOU wash your clothes in a biological cleaner?  THAT uses chemicals which light up for insects and really attract them in.

If your hair is dark, the flies probably want to hide in your hair. Wear a hat or hood.

It could possibly be, he has an after shave or cologne with a citrus base, which the flies will find repulsive.

Ask him what he uses and try it.  :)
