I believe there are over 40 gallons a barrel so if a barrel rises by £10 then surely petrol should go up by 25p a gallon, when in realality it rises much steeper.

  1. it's Gordon browns fault, thats why petrol gets so expensive. look it up.

  2. because oil is refined to produce petrol.

(also we haven't used gallons here for years) it costs more to produce the petrol than the increase in the barrel price as this is only about 70% efficient so for every barrel of oil they only refine around 30 gallons or 136 lites of petrol.

that's the wholesale price its then sold to the distributors who make a profit then to the garages who make a profit

even assuming no extra profit the rise for  ÃƒÂ‚£10/barrel = 7.3 pence per lite and rises here (among the highest have risen by  only 12p/litre).

its like complaining that milk at £1.40 for 2 litres is expensive and yet the farmers only get paid 12pence per litre for making the stuff.

every step of the line someone makes a profit.

  3. because they're greedy and they know they can get it and get away with it

  4. because they can

and its 42 gallons in a barrel
