Question:

Why when you are at the recycling centre when you return the milk cartons you don't get any $ back from them?

The reason why I am asking this is because, I see people recycling other things like bottles, juice boxes, and jugs, but not very many people recycling milk cartons. Do you think that the recycling centres could give some money for the milk cartons? Why or why not?

  1. no, i think you should just recycle because its the right thing to do

  2. Interesting question.   Normally you pay a deposit on the cartons and bottles and you basically getting your deposit back.  If you turn in other bottles and cartons that meet the rules for refunds and you did not pay a deposit you are in money.  Why not milk cartons?  I don't know but most places you are not allowed to recycle milk cartons in any way.  They end up in the landfill.  If you take them to a public disposal drop off centre they have to be sorted later and discarded.  I don't know the reason behind this but perhaps someone who has some knowledge or works in the dairy industry could tell you.  Another way to find out is  to ask someone at the dairy counter of the store that you purchase your milk.  They probably could help you.

    Good luck,
