  1. As Sydney and Brisbane are only 454 miles (732 km) apart, they both have exactly the same Eastern Standard Time (EST) - which is GMT +10 hours !

    Perhaps the offices of the phone company you rang-up in Brisbane is actually based in Sydney - which is why they mentioned 'Sydney time' !
