Why when youre pumping gas...?

does it stop and go slow before the reach the ammount you want? Say you want 20.00. Why does it stop at 19.50 and go slow? It drives me absolutely crazy!!

Because otherwise the mechanism could easily overshoot.

Just fill it and pay with a creditcard, much easier!

the computer in the store is set to control the flow of gas if u prepay that way  people dont go over there the amount they pay for so the pump will stop when it suppose to

It is done electronically to prevent over run.

Yeah, it has to slow down before stopping.  Like if you're pouring water from a bucket into another bucket, won't you have to slow down before stopping?
