  1. Well, this is due to natural selection and allele variation just as you said. But think about, why do we need lips? Lips are a visible organ, at the mouth of humans and many animals. Lips are soft, protruding, movable, and serve as the opening for food intake, as an erogenous organ used in kissing and other acts of intimacy, as a tactile sensory organ, and in the articulation of speech. The skin of the lips is stratified squamous epithelium. The mucous membrane is represented by a large area in the sensory cortex, and is therefore highly sensitive. The muscles acting on the lips are considered part of the muscles of facial expression. All muscles of facial expression are derived from the mesoderm of the second pharyngeal arch, and are therefore supplied (motor supply) by the nerve of the second pharyngeal arch.

Monkeys have thin lips, and until kissing and speech was invented they remained small. But after variation use of the muscle it grew, and in Africa their was more time to deveolp these skills of a different language, or the neanderthals lack of oral communcation (pre-whites), because they were more hand movements. After generations of breeding it generally remained that way.

  2. Human Nature!  Why do people walk on two legs instead of four?

  3. It is cuz we all suck on lemons and thick lips would cause a burning sensation.

  4. Whites?  That's quite a generalization.  I'm white and I don't have "thin lips".

  5. Lips are composed of erectile tissue, like nipples and genitalia, and since Caucasians moreso than the other "races", have spent many more thousands of years in colder climates, it makes sense that this sensitive tissue would tend to retract & limit its exposure to the cold, after many generations!

  6. Well I am white and have full thick lips.....
