  1. digital does not have to be any better. in a lot of cases digital sound quality is actually worse. it all depends on how the digital signal is encoded. the major advantage of digital is that the signal does not degrade. digital is just 1 and 0, whereas analog could be 0-10v and everything in between. if you have a 1 volt loss during transmition, the digital is still ones and zeros but the analog is unreadable. the biggest advantage of digital is the long range degradation of analog signals. every other feature of analog versus digital would apply to which one is better for a specific use. digital can give very high quality signals but it takes up alot of space.

ps if you have high speed internet via cable, your are receiving this digital transmittion over an analog frequency (called a channel).  analog can have unlimited channels; digital can have only one. in data transmittion very little is just one or the other. hybrid systems are required to make digital fit in a small bandwidth. so which is best? digital sent over analog.

  2. As a technology, analog is the process of taking an audio or video signal (in most cases, the human voice) and translating it into electronic pulses.

Digital on the other hand is breaking the signal into a binary format where the audio or video data is represented by a series of "1"s and "0"s. . The beauty of digital is that it knows what it should be when it reaches the end of the transmission. That way, it can correct any errors that may have occurred in the data transfer. What does all that mean to you? Clarity. In most cases, you'll get distortion-free conversations and clearer TV pictures.

In conclusion, the strength of using a digital system over analog is clear. Digital signals are easier to transmit and offer less room for errors to occur. This leads to accurate data transmission that in turn leads to faster transmission rates and better productivity.
