Why will Rafael Nadal never reach to the Top Rankings again – Tennis News
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, might never be able to regain his former top spot irrespective of his recovery. The Spaniard is a living tennis legend and displayed his classic performance after his comeback in 2009.
In 2010, Nadal reached the top of his tennis career and dominated all the overpowering odds. He set the record by winning all the Grand Slam Championships, excluding the Australian Open. At the end of the year, he was the undisputed
world number one player.
In the next year, the left-hander Spanish participant defeated the Serbian number one, Novak Djokovic, in the final of the French Open to claim his sixth title. Despite of his former success, Nadal faced a tough competition in
the start of 2012.
Although he was top seeded player for the smaller tournaments, he was unable to sustain his world number one spot. He received a straight sets upset at the hands of the French number one, Gael Monfils in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open
in Doha. At the Australian Open, Djokovic over powered him and consolidated his win after a tough battle, stretching for five sets.
Similarly, the king of clay lost at the hard courts against the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, who penned down his straights sets win at 3-6, 4-6. Further, he continued his journey with a sloppy pace, receiving straight sets upset
by the lower ranked player in almost all the tournaments.
His performance took a drastic turn in the French Open, when he rallied past the Serbian professional and confidently jolted down his win after a fierce battle. The most unfortunate event for the Spanish participant was in Wimbledon
Champion at the All-England-Courts. He miserably lost against the Czech professional, Lukas Rosol. He was plagued with a serious knee injury in the second round was completely dashed the hopes of his fans.
His withdrawal from the next tournaments surely brought glad tidings for the other top contenders, who desperately wanted to bag home the medal. The Swiss champion nudged up, securing the Wimbledon Champion and claimed the world
number one spot. Furthermore, Nadal absence from the ATP World Tour gave a chance to the young Scot to secure his first Grand Slam title at the US Open.
The 26-year-old, Nadal, announced his comeback in the 2013 Australian Open. His critics believe that hard court tournament were never the player’s strength, as he won once at all the respective Grand Slam Champions.
His journey to the top is surely the toughest of all the challenges that he has faced in his tennis career. His knee problems are expected and considerably been a nagging issue for him, for years now.
