Why will some programs work but not others?

when i turn on my computer and choose a user name to log onto it....none of my icons pop up so i have to press Ctrl Alt Delete and go to New Task and type in explorer to get them all to come up, then when i try to start world of warcraft,it wont work, but then when i try to start firefox it works,can anyone tell me why this is happening, i need to play world of warcraft or im gonna start having withdrawls!

Firefox and Warcraft are created by two different groups of developers thus one software might load while the other will not. This is due to the painstaking programming actions by one and not the other.

Probably you have a malware intrusion messing with your Warcraft installation. Thus to rule out malware, try the following?

1. Update your antivirus and antispyware definition databases.

2. Disable your System Restore, clean up all Temporary and Recycle Bins. Use ATF-Cleaner from http://www.atribune.org , or use CCleaner from http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Porta...

3. Boot to Safe Mode,  [restart, press F8, choose Safe Mode, login] then run your anti-virus. Clean/Quarantine when necessary.

4. In Safe Mode, also scan for spyware, or malwares using Spybot-Search & Destroy http://www.spybot.com/en/download/index....

As you have not indicate what version of Warcraft you are using on what Operating System [WinXP, Vista, etc], there are a lot of website dealing with Warcraft errors, so try viewing these sites:
