  1. of course not

it was always a pipe dream

since they announced it, there has been setback after setback (eg. voss rejection)

i think it is clear now to the afl that nobody wants it even though it will be "viable"

it wont be there for atleast 10 years, i can guarantee you

they dont have the personnel and players to get it to work

    same deal for western sydney

  2. I think they need to fill the stadium they have up there first, where are the supporters coming from??  They are already going to waiver all these fees, what next free admission at the gate for the first year JOKE!!

  3. AFL is trying to prove to the world that AFL is a national game. Next move is to make it THE Australian national game replacing cricket. How long has it taken to make Sydney a success, and Brisbane? It will take another 30 years at least to "convert" northern states to AFL They are equally loyal to ARL.

It's just not on - a pipe dream, skating on thin ice, trying to weaken Victorian clubs. There's only so much money to go around. The most logical next step is to bring Tasmania in and make the game support complete in the South. Consolidate more before attempting to wrap up the North.

Like converting China to Democracy - it won't happen for another 100 years.

  4. not enough teams in qld theirs only the lions and there is meant to be a new Sydney team 2.

  5. So they can axe North Melbourne or Richmond.

    And rightly so.

I agree with the other guy here, Tasmania deserves an AFL team.

  6. To make more money and kill off the Victorian teams :((

  7. Because the AFL want Aussie Rules to be the most popular code in Australia. They already dominate WA, SA, Vic and Tassie (Not sure about Northern Territory), and they want to expand into NSW and QLD even more (to overtake Rugby League). Hence the new Gold Coast and West Sydney teams.

(I personally think the new team should be in Tassie...)

  8. There's going to be two new teams and I think a Tasmanian and a Gold Coast team would be the best options.  To try to make a West Sydney team is just stupid.

Andrew Demetriou ffs, the crowds would be about 2000 people if that much for the first year.  He's only doing it to stamp AFL into the heart of NRL and try to overtake it in their own states.  It won't work.

  9. I think it will be disasterous and embarrassing for the AFL. Adelaide is an Aussie rules city and has two teams.  Port Adelaide fails to get big crowds consistently.  A second team in a non-AFL city will not attract big crowds.

  10. Two reasons, one they r greedy b******s and secondly not many Vic players will move from Vic so the players will b poached from other interstate teams. Thereby weakening the interstate teams and strengthening the Vic teams.

  11. **Because Queensland is currently dominated by NRL and the AFL believe that there is room for another footy team on the Gold Coast in an attempt to get more people interested in AFL and giving the NRL some competition up there.  It's exactly the same reason that they're talking about getting another team in the Western suburbs of Sydney.**

  12. I think there will be a new QLD team in a near future just because the Carrara stadium is underused and they really want a regular team in the Gold Coast, not just the few Kangaroo games they have.

The Gold Coast people really want to have their own team and be able to go to the footy week after week and there are enough good players to build a whole new team.

  13. The AFL is trying to set up new teams in Qld & NSW in order to lessen the amount of Melbourne based teams.

The Kangaroos foolishly resisted the opportunity to move. It would have got them out of the debt of several million dollars that the club owes. They refused to relocate to appease their 371 Melbourne based members.

Melbourne, which has about 20 more members than the Kangaroos, owe 5 million bucks. The AFL would love to see the back of them as well.

  14. Television & the money it brings the code.

AFL is the biggest earner from TV now & wants to grow the value.

Sydney, Brisbane & Northern NSW /SE Qld are the markets that limit the current value of AFL - thats why the AFL are targetting these markets.

The NRL must be hoping the critics within the AFL succeed in going to Tassie, because there are nil/no TV ratngs gains to be had down there. The pro Tassie proponents should be looking to get a team relocated from Melbourne - what is Melbourne, 9 teams & 5 on special AFL support (i.e bludging on the comp).

  15. it takes a long time to start up a brand new club you have to pick good players coachers sponsers and more dude. shut up people from nsw and queensland

  16. WELL

    YEs

there willl be a new team.

AND BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE ALL ROUND THA STATE AND THEY WANT THE RUGBY STATES TO ENJOY SUM AFL
