Why will windows media player not play recorded dvd audio but it plays video?

My windows media player will play the video on a recorded dvd (recorded form my dvd recorder tv show) but no audio. The dvd works on the dvd recorder and in my car why will it not work on my computer. How can i fix the audio problen so it also works on my computer?
