Question:

Why won't 2000 Pontiac Montana Interior (Courtesy) Lights Work When The Doors Are Open?

I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana and the interior dome lights stopped working when a door is opened. The lights are certainly not burned out because they work when I use the button to turn all the interior lights on (located on the center ceiling area near the digital compass and thermometer). All the dashboard lighting works fine and they will dim when using the slider, but when I slide it all the way over to the right which should turn on all the dome lights nothing happens. I checked the 10 amp fuse which says interior lights and it is fine. I don't believe it is related to the door pin because the lights won't come on when any door is open (not just the drivers door). I am thoroughly confused and feel I have checked all the obvious things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Some vehicles have another switch to turn the lights off even when the doors are open, perhaps yours got turned off?

  2. check for a override switch.  its typicaly located near the headlight switch.  that may have been hit by accident causeing them to not work
