Why won't 'Internet Options' open?

Hi. Whenever I click internet options on control panel or the browsing page it blinks up and then dissapears. It has been happeneing for ages.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

  1. It sounds like Inetcpl.cpl (which is the control panel file for the options) is missing. Check if that file is there on your computer. You didn't give OS details, but I think it will be under C:\Windows\System 32 or C:\Windows (mostly under System 32).

    If that file is there, then run it and see if it works

    If the file is not there, try copying it from the install CD

    If the file is there and doesn't open, it might be due to some malware blocking the access. If you are computer savvy, you can check HKEY_current_user / Software / Policies / Microsoft / Internet Explorer / restrictions in registry to see if something is there or easy route would be to install AntiMalware and run it

    I recommend using http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php. It is free. Install it and run update to get latest definitions and scan your computer

    If it reports nothing, your best bet is to removing and re-installing Internet Explorer.
