Question:

Why won't Geocities post my pics?

Yahoo Geocities seems permanently temperamental these days I have bog standard photo pictures as .jpg and it’s a complete lottery if Geocities will decide to load them or not.

I know their limitations on ‘funny’ extensions and file formats BUT these do not apply.

Even basic pictures downloaded to PC by a right click may or may not load on no other rational than pure serendipity.

Yahoo with the wonders of the digital age is the proverbial chocolate fire guard, fob you off with FAQ’s and auto email replies that regurgitate the FAQ.

Give them the actual problem to sort out and they simple implode into the ether.

So this question is a plea for assistance from REAL people not ‘Virtual help desks’.

  1. ok i'll give this a try......take a "screen shot" of the pic you want ..then save it as different extention...jpeg...pic...gif and see which one geo excepts....look and compare which ones that you already have in there and see which ones are the ones that work ...what the common factors...file size..file name..in the get info area.

hope this answer helps...I'm not expert ..this is just works for me sometimes.:)

  2. The problem might be caused by a very big, in terms of bytes, photo (0.5MB or greater) . I suggest that you compress your jpg file into manageable size to kilobytes using popular software such as ACDSee or equivalent application. Pictures downloaded from the 'net to the PC are sometimes  converted to bitmaps (.BMP) which are usually bigger in bytes than other graphic formats, due to user's configuration. Also, more often than not, the downloaded file retains the original .jpg or .jpeg extension; thus when uploaded to GeoCities, the bloated jpg file (which actually could be a BMP) loads too long. Furthermore, depending on your Internet connection, if the page loaded has a very big image and if your connection resets the big file might not be loaded.
