Why won't iTunes let me import any .mp3 files into the music library?

I have added hundreds of songs before the same way I am trying now, it just completely stopped working a few days ago, and I haven't changed any settings since the last time it was working. I've tried dragging the file into the library, importing the file, opening the file with iTunes, etc. and each time the file is ignored and nothing happens.

Is it a file you downloaded? Is the file possibly corrupted? Have you tried downloading the file again?
