Why won't internet explorer allow me to change my home page?

I just reset Internet Explorer 7 to its default settings as a test. Now it will not let me change my home page to any other but MSN.com. When I type http://www.yahoo.com into the window in the general tab of internet options, it defaults back to MSN as soon as the options window is closed. How do I change this?

tools= internet options- where you see settings click  on that and look to make sure the box is checked to auto to search for  newer versions of stored pages
