Why is it 'most' humans don't dine on Monkey, Dog, Squirrel and a bunch of other animals yet they will eat Cow, Chicken, Turkey, Ham, Fish.. Why are the others so unpopular and why is there a stigma attached to eating those other animals?

  1. i'm having squirrel this saturday.

his coming saturday is the last day of flintlock hunting in PA and one of my buddies has a party. one of my cousins made a squirrel stew from all the squirrels he and others killed during small game season. we'll also be having venison (of course) and wild turkey breast cutlets.

there will be Old Milwaukee Light on tap as well as a couple bottle of whiskey. fun will be had by all!

  2. It is only in certain cultures that stigmas are attached to eating certain animals... one example I believe that in the Hindu culture they would not eat cows as cows are revered!

So your comment about " 'most' humans " is somewhat incorrect.

  3. There are some cultures whose people eat monkeys, dogs, and squirrels.  Even Americans used to hunt and eat squirrels.  Maybe some people here still do.

Tastes in food can vary greatly from culture to culture.

  4. Idk in my opinion meat is meat if it tastes good eat it.

  5. Well most humans ?? It's a cultural thing, I know that most Asian countries eat dog, because of the lack of natural protein in their environment. The Chow dogs were raised to hunt bear in china then became the main course for a few hundred years! As far as squirrel, some still eat it, I know as a hunter I've ate it. Not to bad really. It's just the culture in which you've grown up in. Not a real big pressing issue for food any more with all the fast food around. And for monkey it's an Indo-Asian thing again. I know monkey brains are like Ice cream in India, but now they are trying to shun the practice because of so many close minded people condemning their cultural heritage.

  6. The area of the world you investigate has its own tastes in animals.. Asian countries have eaten Dog, Squirrels monkeys for centuries..The settlers of America and people today in America, hunt and eat squirrels. and eat some monkey.South American countries and the African continent eat Rats, Monkeys, Squirrels, and many other animals in the families of those you mentioned.. Notice the family of animals you mention as acceptable are considered "Domesticated" meaning  raised  by humans for  slaughter.. With the exception of fish, and then some species of fish are now being "farm raised"  in  the United States , South America, and China!! Acceptance  is gained over a long period of time.. Also  AVAILABILITY  and  quantity  are also factors when promoting  a  animal for consumption..There are no 'stigma's' attached to ANY  form of animal for consumption.. If its edible and  people can get it in quantity, marketeers will provide it..

  7. Well for the most part, dogs are our man's best friend. I don't think I can handle eating dog while sitting in my kitchen while my own dog looks at me, it would make me feel bad and disgusted. As for monkey and squirrel, I wouldn't mind trying them but I don't think squirrel has much meat on it anyway.
