Question:

Why won't my 2 month old Briggs & Stratton pushmower engine kick in and start?

I have a new (2 month old) Poulan Key Start, Self-Propelled push mower. It has run like a dream since the day I got it. I keep the air filter clean (I have a LOT of dirt in my yard--grass not filled in yet) keep the oil in, although I may have overfilled it once. I have been using, I just recently found out, gas with ethonol in it. I will quit doing that. Now it just revs when I turn the key and just keeps reving, but never kicks in and goes. I know the battery is fully charged and it does sound like full power when I turn the key, but it just never will start up any further than that. What can I do?

  1. Make sure the fuel valve is open (if the mower has one). You could try a fuel injector / carburetor cleaner and place a little in the fuel tank. The symptoms sound like the fuel might be contaminated or the spark plug is not working.
