Question:

Why won't my 5.1 surround sound system work?

I have a dolby 5.1 surround system with a powered amp/sub, the other night i was just quietly listening to some music when there was a sharp click sound and the music stopped, just like the sound of when you blow a speaker. so i thought i had blown all my speakers. i went over and checked it. the amp/sub still turns on and has power but no sound comes through. when i take those speakers and plug them into my PC's sound system they work fine, so theres nothing wrong with the speakers. I smelt the rear vents on the amp/sub and it had a sort of overheating plastic smell, i'm not sure if it's always had that smell or not. i have no idea whats happened. does anyone know what to do?

appreciate some help!

Thanks!!

  2. Check to see if there is a fuse or reset on the speaker output, if not, try resetting the system using the instruction manal's diirections. I really think the amp went out on you, though.

    Sorry.

  3. Dang, sounds like the amp blew. I had that happen (in my car though)... and the same thing happened. I was listening quietly, and it just clicked and turned off.

The only thing you can do at this point is try to factory reset it with the instruction guide. If that doesn't work, I'm guessing its a goner. If you take it to an electronics shop, you could pay them a bunch of money to look at it. Maybe it's something small, but I doubt it.

By the way, if you are looking for a new amp, I managed to get a really nice Pioneer one for 50 bucks off of Craigslist. You can find some deals there.

    Sorry about your luck.
