Why won't my Canon S400 won't turn on when memory card is in.?

It works just fine till I put the Memory card in. It' a new card and the second one that I've purchased. It did the same with the old one. Any troubleshooting ideas would be great. I've tried taking taking out and putting both the battery and memory card back in with no results. Help me.

put your memory card in a card reader that is attached to your computer and Format it.

If you have a card reader on your computer, you should check to make sure you can read and write to them from your computer. If you can't, chances are the cards are corrupt. If you've got another device that accepts that style of card, that would be a good way to test too.
