Question:

Why won't my DVD-RW recorded disc play in other players?

Details:

* It's a Samsung DVD recorder

* I have finalized the disc, so please don't offer that as a solution.

* I've tried the disc in my Toshiba player at home and it says there's no usable data on the disc.

* I've also tried it in my PC at work, and it just shows that it's a "Samsung DVD Recorder Volume"

* When you open the disc, there's a folder inside called "DVD_RTAV"

* Inside that folder are three files -- "VR_MANGR.BUP", "VR_MANGR.IFO" and "VR_MOVIE.VRO"

* I tried opening the "VR_MOVIE.VRO" file from Windows Media Player, but it doesn't work. The other two files aren't readable.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

  1. you should have never bought a samsong unit anyway! Buy a panasonic you will get better results, take the other one back!

  2. This is a very common problem these days.  DVD-RW's are the least compatible format.  They usually only play in the recorder they were made on and if you are lucky maybe another new model DVD player.

    If I want the disk to play in other players, I always use the cheaper "one time only" DVD-R disks.  They seem to be more compatible with most newer players.
