Why won't my DVD work on my DVD Player?

I burned an .avi file onto a DVD-R but it doesn't work on my DVD Player, but it works on my computer. Any reason why it won't work on my DVD player? My friend told me I should use a DVD converter tool but i don't know any.

  2. DVD is formatted differently from AVI Files, just like Audio CD's are not in WAV files, but its own format.

    DVD Videos have .vob file extensons and AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS Folders.

    You will need to use a DVD Making software to convert your AVI files into Video DVD's. Try looking for software around the web. I don't know any a top of my head.
