Why won't my Jeep start?

It is a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited. When I turn the key, the lights are bright , but it just makes a loud fast ticking noise and doesn't start.

Anyone know what it could be?

I HAVE A GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 2000 AND IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING NOT STARTING AND DOING THAT TICKING NOISE , AT FIRST IT WAS JUST THE BATTERY AND I JUST NEEDED A JUMP START BUT THAN I COULDN'T EVEN JUMP STARTED AND IT TURN OUT TO BE CENSORS AND THEY JUST NEEDED TO BE CLEANED I FORGOT WHAT CENSORS BUT HOPEFULLY I'D HELPED

It could be several things.  Start by checking your battery terminal connections.  Sometimes they need cleaning and maintenance.    Another test would be to see if you can jump start it with jumper cables.  If that works, its most likely the battery.
