Why won't my Optician give me contact lenses?

She didn't give a straight answer - just said they wouldn't be suitable for me - could it be anything to do with my T.E.D?

  1. Sorry....T.E.D ?

Don't know what that is refering to...

  2. Because contact lenses will make your dry eyes excruciatingly dry.

If you have a severe refractive error or astigmatism, you may be able to get special contacts with a fluid chamber, called 'mini sclerals' (from boston scleral)- aside from that, unfortunately, some eyes simply cannot tolerate contacts.

  3. When saying T.E.D I'm assuming you're referring to Graves' ophthalmopathy, right? If so, I can also assume you have quite a bit of dry eye, as you have less tears and they are less effective at keeping the eye moist, and contact lenses increase that effect greatly, so that may be the reason. That, and the fact that you probably also can't close your eye completely, which may make the contact lens completely dry up while on your eye.

So I can understand why your optician is reluctant to provide you with contacts, but you should her this same question directly, just so you can get a straight answer.

    Good luck :)

  4. i'm sure she has a good reason, talk to another Optician to get a second opinion.
