Question:

Why won't my Wi-Fi enabled cell phone connect to my secured home wireless network?

I have an HTC Tornado cell phone that is Wi-Fi enabled, but I can't seem to get it to connect to my home network. I have a secured network and the router is in my room, but my cell phone doesn't let me connect to it. I know it's not a problem with the phone, because I went to McDonald's earlier and it let me connect to their Wi-Fi. But why won't it let me work for the one in my room? I tried entering the network key, but it tells me it's the wrong key. And now it stopped asking me for a key altogether. Can someone please help?!

I purchased this phone unlocked from eBay, and my provider is AT&T. I contacted the seller but they said they only sell the phones and don't know why they won't connect to wi-fi. I thought it might be my home connection, but obviously it isn't since I am using it to type this.

  1. I also have a wi-fi phone but I didn't have any problem like this.  I think you will be able to solve the problem by just resetting the router and start fresh.  To do this you have to take a small needle and there will be a reset button in the back of the router.  Press and hold the button with the needle for 15 seconds and let the router reboot on its own.  When you do this the router will lose its network pass key and it wont be secure anymore, so you'll have to set that up again.  But at this point your phone should be able to connect to the wireless.  If you decide to put in a new key, don't forget your phone will need it to connect to the wireless.  I hope this was helpful.

  2. Sometimes when u connect 2 devices to the router it might not work and it wud need a patch to upgrade it.I remember sometime back i was able to connect to my home network with one system and when i switch off one pc the next gets connected properly..Chk it.Jus a thought from my side..

  3. I believe the phone supports WEP and WPA (TKIP)

If you are running something the phone doesn't support, you need to change the security on the router (if you want to use the phone).

You can always *test* this theory by changing it temporarily.

--Saw your update... So is it set to use both together? Can you try using just WPA or no security to test?
