Question:

Why won't my cat stay out of her litter box?

I have a 7 week old kitten that will not stay out of the litter box! Now I know that people always complain of kittens not making it and this is backwards but, my kitten almost refuses to get out! Today I went to Walmart and she was in there going #2 and when I got back she was still in there. I thought maybe she had got out and got back in again, but she stayed in there another 30 minutes. I took her out of the box, gave her the food (Friskie's it's like pureed stuff almost) and Whiskers Cat Milk. I have not changed her diet at all, same stuff. Is it possible she is afraid of not making it back to the box? I have never scolded her for not making it although I did put here in there directly after an accident today. Please Help! I just want to know if this is normal or not!

  1. Dont worry about it, she is just scared becuse of noises or something, he is still veary young. as long as the mother still feeds him he shold be fine, if the mother isent feeding him he might not live. bring the mother to him to make sure she feeds him.

  2. I'll bet she's just scared/nervous about being out in the open. Maybe you could create another cave-like area for her to sleep and play in instead. She may like it if it feels safe.

  3. He's probably just scared. Take him out hold him or play with him for a little while. He'll probably snap out of it after a while.

  4. It's pretty normal.  I work at a vet clinic and the cats staying there during the day (adult or kitten) almost always stay in the litter box the whole time.  I think it's a source of comfort for them because it's small and they feel more protected.

  5. It sounds like your cat may have a scat fetish, you may want to do a search for this online but be warned. I would recommend a solution of 450 degrees for 45 minutes post-shave.

  6. Pig in a former life? LOL

  7. My kitten does the same thing, it's normal. Your kitten is laying in there because it likes it's own scent and the litterbox is where that scent is the strongest.
