Question:

Why won't my cockateil be quiet??

My roommate has a cockateil who won't shut up. He's not sociable at all; he hates me. He attacks me for no reason, etc, etc. Whenever she leaves for work, he screams desperately for at least two hours afterwards. I work from home, and it's not practical. I've taken to taking a two to three hour break when she leaves for work. It's so frustrating. How can I keep him quiet, or even entertained? He won't let me touch him at all. (I've been living with this d**n bird for over two years now.)

Please help!

  1. He has probably bonded to his owner and is doing what comes naturally, calling for her when she is not there.  You can try putting a dark colored sheet over him until he quiets down but most likely he will start back up for a while once uncovered and you can't leave him covered all day.  Try placing a radio close to his cage with some soothing music or turn the t.v. to cartoons at a low volume.  You could also try bribing him with millet, they absolutely cannot resist it!

  2. You could try covering the cage as already advised, plus maybe move him or yourself from sight if he hates you as much as you say. He attacks you? He has freedom to roam and chase after you? No offense, but I cant help wondering if your roommate is trying to get rid of you. Maybe consider a new roommate.

  3. try putting a dark colored sheet over his cage. works wonders.. i know exactly how annoying it is.
