I have a toy poodle, and he is the sweetest and friendliest little dog there is. He loves to play around the house, and will chase after toys at top speed. But when I take him out for a walk, he won't run! He will trot as fast as his little legs will go, but refuses to break out into a run. I don't get it!
This is frustrating, because I use my walks for cardio, for me and the dog together. I will walk quickly for about 15 minutes to warm up, but when I am ready to jog, he doesn't keep up! He might trot a little faster, but that's it. I KNOW he can run, he does it inside the house all the time! Why won't he run with me outside?
I have also considered that he might be too tired to run after 15 minutes of walking, but even when he starts out fresh, he won't break into a run. I have tried everything from excitedly encouraging him to dragging him behind me. Nothing works.
Please help me! I want to be able to have a jogging buddy!
