Why won't my friend pick up the phone?

okay my friend and i are really close. so i call him and ask if he wants to hang out. he says he always has swim meets which i don't blame him but when i call him even when he doesn't have swim he never picks up or calls me back. he is not mad at me. help me please

I had the same problem... I like this dude of mine... he like me a lot too...  but sometimes he does not pick up the phone of mine purposefully... becoz he feels that he is giving into my call... but eventually he would call me back.

One time what I did - I did not call him for 2 weeks and even did not talk to him... after that I called and we talked and we hangout on the weekend... he said to me that he feel awkward... becoz I did not gave him a call... I said in my mind you do not pick my call... since after that he always tries to return my call... whenever I call...

But, I have some fault too... I am very impatient and I try to call my friend too often to hangout... becoz I love hanging out with him... somehow you and me need to find a balance in hanging out...  I have discussed this issue with my friend... and we have worked through this problems often many times...

You need to change a bit... I have changed myself... I do not try bother him too much... so he comes to me... but since he is my best friend... I tend to bother him more than anyone else.

I found out one interesting thing --- when I do not bother him much... he comes near to me... and when I do bother... he goes little to distant... but still helps me.

seems like he's trying to avoid you.

maybe he thinks you two are spending too much time.

'cause that happened with me and my friend.

only i didn't ignore her. i'd just tell her that i wasn't in the mood to hang out.

but maybe you should leave him a message and tell him that you need to talk.

Here are some possibilities:

a)He's avoiding you. Give him some time alone.

b)He's having family issues. My friend didn't answer her phone for a few weeks and she said that it's because her 'rents were getting divorced

c)He's busy

I'd give him a little space.  Call him in a week if you haven't heard from him.  I find I'm getting more and more paranoid these days when I don't get through to someone for a while.  I think we are so used to always being able to connect straight away that when a friend goes AWOL for a while we can get a little panicky and start to think it is us, when really it has nothing to do with it at all.

I think your friend is simply busy with his life, or is tired after his swimming classes, or is having some other commitment like exams, family, love life, etc. So I suggest u give him some space and time :)
