Question:

Why won't my laptop charge and turn on?

Well I have the charger in a working socket and the green light halfway down the charger is on, but my laptop (that won't turn on as I used all the battery on it) won't charge. It doesn't even recognise that the charger is plugged in to the laptop. I have checked that it is plugged in and everything. Do you think there is something wrong with the charger, or my laptop? It is so annoying because I have to use this computer that is so slow it took me about an hour to load up the site and ask this question (well maybe not an hour). My computer is still under guarantee at PC world so would they be able to look at it and fix it for free, or would they give me a new one? Also if I got a new one would they manage to take everything (photos, videos, work ect.) off my old laptop onto my new laptop, considering that the last backup I did was ages ago, seeing as it was working fine and my dad didn't remind me to do one?

  1. I would take the battery out and see if the laptop starts without it.  If you can get it running all the way into Windows then plug the battery in while it is running.  It should charge then.

Very bad idea to let the battery go to zero.

Might want to leave a note for yourself to backup on the first of the month so you don't blame someone else.

  2. My laptop went completely dead and now it won't charge, it will only work when its plugged in so i think it's a faulty battery. Mine is still under guarantee a PC world also, i keep meaning to bring it back...

I'd say it would be easily fixed.

  3. Try replacing the charger first as it is probably the problem and the easiest thing to fix. If it still doesn't charge then send it off to be repaired. PCWorld should fix it if it is under guarantee

It is also possible that they would backup everything from your old laptop - you could always ask them

  4. Mine does this sometimes. Honestly, and I am NOT lying, I seriously drop my Laptop on the ground and it works LOL.

More specifically I turn it on and the screen wont come on, so I turn it off, and then turn it on and drop it and the screen lights up.

I found this out because it wouldnt turn on for like 5 hours I was getting so mad so I threw the laptop and I saw the reflection in the window of the screen lighting up and I was like, wow you got to be kidding me lol. It happened again so I did it and it worked so thats how I always fix mine.

  5. You over ran down the battery. If you have a spare battery use it (you may need to charge it first) and it should be fine. You can charge the other battery when you need to change again.

  6. the battery or the charger could be faulty, if your have insurance they should fix It for free....if not you may have to buy a new charger/battery. you will only get a new one if they cannot fix the problem. the same thing happened to my computer, i had to get the whole thing fixed, they can get your old information onto a new hard drive....but they will give your your old hardrive for you to do it your self. (which is a lil silly).

  7. I say, send it to your local computer specialist or send it away to the manufacturer to see what they can do.

  8. The charger could have a fault on the output and as its under guarnatee then take it all back to PC world and they will try replacing the charger first.

then if that fails they will take it back for repair.  for them to copy over existing files or backup your hard drive WILL COST you.  You are supposed to back up files yourself (USB pwered drives only cost £50) and they might charge you £70 to do it for you plus the cost of the drive.

if you are given it back they often erase the disk and reinstall the operating software from scratch but NOT your files.

you should backup every week really and use a USB powered disk rather than CD_R's as its quicker and lest wastefull.
