Why won't my laptop go online?

I recently installed a linksys wireless router at my house so I could use my laptop to go online. But sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Right now, for instance, the router seems to be operating, but my laptop acts like the thing isn't even there. What's going on??

Have you tried reinstalling the driver of your wireless LAN?Sometimes, you need to update the driver of your wireless LAN or reinstall it to make it work. Try also resetting the wireless router. Press the "RESET" button found at the back for about 30 seconds so that the configuration of your router will be resetted.

Hmm, I've got two questions that can hopefully help you troubleshoot this a little bit.

Are you sure you are connected to your router and not for example your neighbors router?

When the router does not seem to be working can you somehow check if the internet is still working? If both wireless and with wire stop working at the same time then I would call my internet service provider.

ADDED:

With your additional details in mind I'd like to ask.. are you connected to the internet now through that same router? If you are then the basic configuration settings for the router are correct I assume -- in that case I would read the manual and see if there is anything on how to configure wireless settings. If not then I'm certain that your problem is that the router is not configured correctly.
