Why won't my subs work?

Hi, I have a 3 farad cap going to a 980 watt amp into my 1100 what bandpass subs.....I have had this set for 4 months and when I was banging down the highway they just cut off....I thought my amp cut off because it was a hot day and i figured it just cutt itself off...but when I got home they still didn't work. I check the fuse on the cable coming off the battery, and the fuses on the amp and they're fine. I'm thinking that the cap died but im not sure...what should I check first and how do I do it. Im more of a computer guy rather than speaker know-how. The whole thing is still grounded but nothing will work. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Andrew Harley

  1. take it to local best buy

  2. Go to an autoparts store and buy a test light for about 5 bucks and start at the battery and work your way back.

  3. I'm thinking that your subs might have been wired to an ohm load that was too low for the amp, which burned it out. Take the speaker wires out of it, and if it still goes into protect, it is probably a POWER issue. When you put the ohm load lower than the designated level that the amp can handle,  it makes the circuits hotter on the inside, which makes them burn. That is why your a mp doesn't work, which is why your subs don't work.

  4. Hey, I'm not saying this is your problem but i had this kind of thing happen to me once... Check all of your cables and make sure they are tight and that one isn't missing... I had a cable come right out of the conneector so it can happen....let me know how it goes
