  1. Have you tried pink baby mice? Tarantulas love pink baby mice.

  2. There could be many reasons why it won't eat.  They include stress, premolt, and "random not wanting to eat".  Remember, tarantulas are NOT social animals and like their peace and quiet in the shade.  Being disturbed often will stress it out, same with it being moved from one environment to another.  You should be feeding it 3-4 crickets once a week, and removing any uneaten crickets after a couple of days as they might stress it out.  All arthropods have to shed their exoskeleton, and tarantulas won't eat in the time before and after molting.  In the "premolt" phase, the exoskeleton will darken as the new exoskeleton starts forming below it, and the tarantula won't eat.  This period can last months.  After molting, the tarantula won't eat for at least a week after, allowing time for the new exoskeleton to harden. Chilean roses, the most common tarantula in the trade, are known to fast for no apparent reason.  These periods of not eating could last *up to a year*, with the record 2 and a half years.  You should start worrying when the tarantula's abdomen shrivels up like a grape, that shows dehydration and/or starvation, or when the legs start to curl underneath the tarantula, and that shows loss of strength and that the tarantula is near death.
