  1. because it has some set of legs on it

  2. check the back part where the float is the flappy cap is probably up, sorry I don't know tthe technical terms for it

  3. Check the easy thing first!!

Here is a link to an image to understand the terms first off and follow along: http://www.rd.com/images/tfhimport/2005/...

See if the chain to the flapper valve is caught under the flapper.  If so, shorten the distance between the handle in the tank and the flapper valve.  THEN check the other suggestions mentioned by others.  Start off with the simple things first before jumping to the difficult things.

Second would be to try bending the float arm a bit to lower the water level shut off.  This prevents it from flowing into the overfill tube.  (In case it isn't obvious, the float ball end should be bent down)

If neither of those are the problem, it is the seal around the flapper.  Simply replacing the valve assembly would solve the problem.  It is a simple fix for somewhere from $7-$25 depending on where you buy the parts.

There are 2 types - a vertical float valve assembly (similar to http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6837264... or the traditional style seen in the top picture link with the float arm and float ball.

  4. If the sound of running water continues after you have adjusted the float ball and the lift wire, check the overflow pipe.

  5. usually the two reasons are 1, the water level is to high and going into the overfill tube, bent the float down alittle or adjust the s***w on the top of the float assembly. 2, the tank flap closure is worn out and wont seat properly.  The flap can be replace with a universal type or temporary dry the flap and use vasoline jelly on the flap evenly for a tight seal.

  6. It is probably the flapper. Remove the tank cover and push down on the rubber flapper that is attached to a chain. If the water stops running then take it off and go to lowes or home depot and they will help you with a replacement one. You can clean the flapper off and the gasket under it and apply vaseline for a quick fix.

  7. worn out flapper for one ,  water level on the toilet tank set too high - fill valve not shutting off therefore overflowing to the overflow ube ...........

  8. It wants to play cards - ever heard of a running flush !!!!!!!
