i put my outside in the shadow in summer, they started giving buds after being outside for 2 months. i would be very careful while  adding chemical fertilizer - violets re very sensitive to fertilizers, they might easily die. but water from aquarium sounds good. if u know where to get one

They need bright indirect light - I have mine under flourescents in the fall and winter - water from the bottom - very little at a time

I never had luck before and now I get flowers quite often - in the warmer months I use a West window with dappled evening sun thru blinds and it blooms nicely.

do not allow to be soggy and do not allow to dry out for too long.

I am going on the assumption that you are talking about an African violet.

Have you been using plain water ? Maybe you need to get some fertilizer. You can get fertilizer especially for African violets at discount or grocery stores. I have a freshwater aquarium in my home and I feed my violets water from that and they are blooming like crazy.

What kind of light is the violet getting. I have mine in a north facing window and it gets about an hour of direct sun in the morning and in the early evening. Try the fertilizer and the lighting conditions and see if that helps.

My mother-in-law gave me this advice.  She told me to add peroxide to my water that I water with.  Didn't say how much so I add about a teaspoon to a pint of water.  It really works well.  Starts them to blooming in a while and then keeps them blooming for a very long time.  Also, mine are in a south window but get filtered light as we have three large oak trees in the front yard that shades the house.
