Why won't older televisions go past channel 69?

I have a few old tvs (late 90s) and none of them go past channel 69 which is frustrating because we have limited cable which comes with a few channels past 69 but we can't watch them. Is there a way around this?

  1. Call your cable provider and ask for a cable box, this way you can get all the channels and your TV will only need to be on channel 3 (or 4) without needing the TV's tuner.  Your cablebox will tune all the channels and send it to your TV's channel 3.

  2. They are using low bandwidth. Cathode tubing can only get certain frequencies. When cable television was in it's infancy, cable boxes were used to create higher channels. As time went by and with broadband and high-definition cable, televisions that are dated 1990 and past will be outdated. I would go with a flat screen HDTV.

  3. Are you sure your TV's  are in the cable setting. Channel 69 is the end of the UHF broadcast TV band.

In the 90's sets defaulted to broadcast with ends at UHF channel 69.  Even in the 90's cable should have gone higher than that.

So look in the menu and change to the CATV or cable setting and see what you get. Cable and broadcast use the same frequencies for channels 2 - 13 after that they are different so you must tell the TV to look for cable. channels.
