  1. Better question is why do they let the kids drink "energy" drinks that are loaded with more caffeine than coffee?

It may be that the myth of coffee stunting your growth is still going strong, though.

    I like the other person's answer...hypocrisy!

  2. Coffee will stunt your growth which means youll stay the same size forever till you die

  3. This is a personal opinion, but I believe it has all to do with marketing.

First of all, soda wasn't always laced with caffeine.  Root beer, being one of the oldest sodas, is still okay to drink by the Mormons because it is naturally caffeine free.  Soda evolved into a dessert drink at soda fountains from the past that was frequented by many young people.  A sweet, so to speak. It crossed over all ages.

In the US, Coffee has been seen as an adult beverage until Starbuck's came along.  Now teens drink it.  I think it will only be a matter of time until North American society lets younger children start drinking coffee.

In many Latin American countries, children are given coffee.  They even put it in baby bottles.  In the UK, even children regularly partake in tea.  In Asia, children drink tea as well.

I believe it has to do with coffee having been portrayed as a beverage that helps adults wake up or stay up.  As soon as the evil marketing geniuses at coffee companies realize they have a new market to tap into, it will only be a matter of time.  It will be marketed as a remedy for ADD (to help exhaust all those Ritalin kids) or something like that.

  4. This was a wonderful question. I don't have an answer but gave you a star.

  5. Coffee has more caffeine then coke does, but coke isn't healthy either! In fact the acids in coke are so strong they could rot your stomach if you drink too much of it. It's okay once in awhile, but not too often.

  6. Not all parents do... my kids do not get any kind of soda (except ginger ale, and only when they're sick) or coffees, anything like that.  Our drinks are limited to water, milk, or 100% juices which we mix half and half with juice and water.   And occasionally, if they've been really good about eating their dinners etc, about once a month I get a 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk that we drink with dinner (half and half with white milk, just to stretch it and make it slightly healthier).

  7. Hypocrisy is alive and well in the 21st century.

  8. i have drank coffee since i was 8 years old.  It could be that it always stunts your growth for awhile, it also makes them look a bit younger than they already are.  Everything is laced with caffeine nowadays.  But their are some soda that are not laced with caffeine like diet a & w rootbeer, diet sunkist, diet rite, and many others.
