  1. Because if they can keep the price of gas high they can shift blame to the Republicans in the upcoming elections.  Why will they not even allow the matter to come to a vote?  To me that shows exactly how little fact their position has.

  2. To serve the environmentalist wing of their constituency.  Also, it is often theorized that they benefit at the polls from a poor economy.  High fuel prices are complimentary to much of their agenda.  So they would really have no reason to make this a priority.

They are relying on the unpopularity of Bush to carry them through the '08 congressional elections.

  3. Because they want the oil companies to drill in the other 20 million acres they have leases on that they have yet to drill.

Yes, it is 20 million acres of drilled area. That is not a typo.

  4. Same reason the Republicans didn't vote for it when they were in control--> If a problem is solved you can't campaign on it.

  5. 'The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it\'s just that they know so much that isn't so.'

    - Ronald Reagan

Our liberal friends pose the following arguments against drilling.

    1. It takes 7+ years to bring oil to the market after a lease

2.Why not drill on the 68 M acres of fed land already leased?

3.We need to focus on alternate energy instead

    4.It harms the environment

    Answers:

    1. If Clinton hadn't vetoed the ANWR oil lease bill 10 years ago, oil would be flowing now.  Time to market can be as little as 2-3years.

2.Some exploration has been done on 40% of this acerage. It's a long process to determine if the site is worth drilling.

Some of these may not be worth drilling until oil hits $200/BBL.

3.Yes that to, but that takes time too. Lets do both

4.Katrina proved the Gulf oil rigs are technically sound.

  6. They can't do anything until next year. If they were to do anything now, any favorable result with fuel prices will be credited to President Bush's administration. They would rather have the American people suffer a little longer so they can take credit completely.

  7. because it wont help... it would take 7+ years for exploration, rig building etc etc to tap the first drops of oil.  Meanwhile oil companies are sitting on thousands of acres of untapped leased resources... mainly so they can count them as asset reserves and increase their stock value...

besides that... mostly because of enviromental reasons.

  8. Be real!!! They are not moving on anything that would make things better before November

  9. It's all about the money. They're making billions off of the oil market

  10. why should they ?

    there is No shortage

    and

The U.S. is already the worlds Third largest petroleum producer,

though it has only the worlds 12th largest crude reserve.

plus.. whats wrong with saving that oil for our kids ?

they might really need it !

  11. Why won't the oil companies drill what is already available to them ?

You think there is some undiscovered untapped reserve out there ?..lol

I'll tell you why,...because if it was an actual solution, we wouldn't be talking about it because they would already be doing it !

They won't drill the leases they already have because the price of imported crude is still LESS than what it would cost to setup a platform off of our own shores to drill small pockets of oil.  It's NOT cost effective for big oil to do it which is why they haven't....

this is an election year stunt, nothing more...

A better question would be...why now all of the sudden this is considered a "fix", by conservatives.... why didnt' you think of this before ?....answer: because it's assinine !

    sorry you are gullible...
