Why won't the Demoncrats allow an up or down vote on oil drilling?

President Bush lifted the moratorium on off shore oil drilling. Now it's up to the Congress. Why won't the Democrats take an up of down vote? What are they afraid of? If they believe their position is the correct one, why won't they put their money where their mouths are?

It's very simple:  they know it will pass and Reid and Pelosi will lose political clout!  If they had any confidence in their position they would at least allow a vote!

they're afraid of losing the vote, which makes them look bad since they've been standing in the way of drilling forever

it also makes the enviromentalists mad and this matters alot because they support the democrats financially

I say fine let them hold the vote up in Congress for oil.

Nov is coming and it will sell so well for the GOP to say they would vote for drilling.

There by Congress will shift back to the GOP side and doom Obama.

I can wait tell than.

Oil companies are not FREE to drill on their leased land, much of it has no oil, and the environmental regulations are so punitive they couldn't even if they want to.

Don't Drill Democrats in Congress has stood in the way of oil drilling for ever, and contiue to do so.   They continue to add every kind of bug, plant, rat, or whatever to the "endangered species" list JUST to prohibit drilling on leased land.

There aren't any endangered species in the ocean, and thats where ALL the oil is anyway, the Don't Drill Democrats understand this, so they block it.

"Why don't  they drill on existing  Lease?" issues is straw and fake  and the LEFT WING knows it.

And because the recent run up has to do with FUTURES MARKET then if we  drill more oil in the FUTURE the price TODAY will drop.

My GOD, Liberals should be required to take basic econ 101 classes, but when they don't it just proves how STUPID they are...

the oil companies are free TODAY to drill on the 68,000,000 acres of land they have - including plenty right in alaska - but HAVE NOT drilled on!

why won't any conservative anywhere respond to that point?

why do the oil companies need more of OUR land so that they can sell their oil in japan, china and india?

Same reason they don't give judicial nominees an up or down vote.  The use parlimentary rules (in congress) to keep down those things they don't want to let come to a vote.
