Why won't the Sims 2 Seasons install on my Vista?

Ok, so i've got the original sims and that was no bother installing, but when i put Seasons into my disk drive it doesn't automatically start. I click on My Computer and then the cd drive that its in but then just opens with loads of files and i can't find the autorun or whatever.. Anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you solve it?

I'm pretty sure that I have enough disk space for it, seeing as it's a pc and not a laptop..

Thanks!

  1. there should be instructions in the manual for doing a local or manual install.

  2. Try looking in the Tsbin folder there should be a startup icon click on that see what happens. The auto run should be there I looked in my season folder and it was there. Try that hope it helps

  3. Sorry for the length - it took me a while to figure out the problem and I didn't delete any of it in case it provides some insight:

(EDIT: Seasons is EP5, but before I rebooted, it kept telling me the Seasons disc was for Sims2EP8. EP8 is Apartment Life, which I had just installed last night. )

I don't mean to add to the frustration you're having, but I run the game and all the expansions on Vista 64. And while Vista will never win my vote for best OS, I still think WinMe (Miserable Edition) is still the worst. But not by much! ;)

Okay - I just popped my Seasons Disc 1 into the drive and it spends a LONG time spinning the disc. There seems to be something wrong. The funny thing is that I already have Seasons installed - but I can't do anything with this disc besides look in the root directory.

The file that is there is AutoRun.exe. This file is in the 'root' of the CD/DVD drive (meaning not in a subdirectory).  Running it gives me a big 'ol "autorun.exe is not a valid 32 bit blah blah blah" error.   But when I originally installed this EP I never got all this drama. Vista SP1 fail? I installed that after Seasons. Who knows.

Plan B - right click the AutoRun.exe file on the CD is not working, so I tried to copy the entire contents of the CD to my harddrive. I get an error that windows can't read from the source file or disc.

Considering that this disc was used to install several months ago, I can only guess that some update for Vista is causing the problem you and I are both seeing, or the nasty SecuROM thing might be the problem.

I'll have to research this more.

EDIT: Not like this has never made Windows random fails go away before, but reboot your machine.  After mine rebooted I was able to launch the autorun for Seasons.

I rarely suggest to people to uninstall a service pack.  But I'm considering doing it myself just to see what happens.
