Why won't the music file play and how can I get it to play?

iTunes is my default music player, if that helps. My mom has a Mac and she downloaded songs from iTunes on her Mac. But we had to save files on a USB memory stick. So now I'm on our Windows PC and I'm trying to open the file from the stick, but it's not working! The file is an MPEG-4 and I made it so that it was no longer hidden, archived and read-only was already unchecked. Why won't the music file play and how can I get it to play?

That will only play through iTunes or on an iPod.
