  1. Because the west will disown them (aka the U.S.)

  2. I don't think that many of the worlds countries won't back Russia on this is because they are afraid of the Bear rising again. Also, there are a lot of countries that have value to the west. If those break away regions are recognized then Russia might be tempted to do it again. Ukraine, Latvia and Estonia are really shaking in their collective boots. If they were smart, they would form a military alliance of some sort. It is true that some of them are in NATO, but let's be serious about this. If Russia invaded say Poland regarding the new missile deal they struck with "us", would we help them? With no natural resources for "us" to exploit I think not

  3. It's weird because US should be for democracy and human rights. In this case all Ossetians want is independence, and what's wrong with that? What, they can't have their own little country?

It is very strange that US see it as "invasion of Georgia", that doesn't make sense to me at all.

P.S. in response to some answers:

US is the one that is starting WWIII: stirring unrest in the whole Middle East: put locator systems in Checkoslovakia, Defence Shield i Poland. US is militarizing easern Europe. If you look at Europe and the whole world none other countries is doing it , except maybe N.Korea. IMHO the US is pushing other countries to militarize => US wants WWIII.

  4. Because The US doesn't trust Russia. It's a wierd situation. One that Russia, wasn't 100% wrong in.

  5. Because it is the start of WW3

  6. Because nobody wins if the nations around Russia continue to fracture into smaller and smaller states.

Russia will wind up absorbing them and we'll have the Soviet issue all over again.

  7. Because it's sovereign Georgian soil.
