I asked my cousin who knows a lot about computers. He tried looking at the settings but he couldn't figure out whats wrong. He said maybe my speakers are going bad. Does anyone know why the sound won't work when i play a movie on my toshiba laptop? It works any other time.

  1. could be a software problem, try re-downloading the program your using to play the movie. I've had this problem before with video sound not working, and there's no reason why it wouldn't. I just kept trying to reinstall everything, like sound drivers...programs... and eventually it started working....

  2. The main thing to do when posting a computer question is to post your specs (Operating system, hardware specifics, model number, etc.)

First thing's first.  Check the volume level on the PLAYER (i.e. Windows Media Player, etc.) that you're using.

Second, click on the little speaker icon farthest away from your "Start" button (I'm assuming Windows XP) and check the volume levels of your different  formats.  You should see Volume Control, Wave, SW Synth, CD Player, Line In, etc.  and be sure that the volume levels are all up and that the "Mute" box is not checked on any of them.

After that I would guess you're missing a required codec.  Search for and download the latest K-Lite codec package (making sure beforehand that you have a fully updated and working virus protection program just in case) and install the K-Lite codec package with its default settings.

You do not have a hardware issue.  As far as speakers are concerned they either work or don't work.

  3. maybe the program ur traing to play ur movie has a tecnical problem so it will b a good idea to check and see if u can play it wit another program or just dowload a new one

  4. Maybe ur media player is on mute. If thats not the case check if u got a CD  with ur speakers and download the software again. Lastly maybe ur speakers are just faulty.

  5. I'm no expert but...You may need to update the drivers

try going to start and right click on my computer and click manage, on the left you should see something that says device manager, scroll down and expand the link that says audio devices, and if anything has a yellow question mark is not working/or connected properly.

Then you would have to update drivers according to the make of your computer simply by going to the website of toshiba, and searching for link that say update drivers.

I hope I helped in some minute way.
