Why wont mayweather fight cotto?

Mayweather is not the greastest until he goes thru cotto .. period !

Not enough money will be made for Mayweather he wants 18 million or more to fight someone which is what he gets when he fights Oscar de la Hoya. A cotto match wouldn't generate that kind of money for Mayweather.

I believe Floyd knows Cotto will push him harder and farther than any other opponent he has previously faced and the very real possibility of losing makes Floyd reluctant.  It's not exactly fear, more like a healthy respect for a guy you know you may not be able to beat.

I agree with you on one point, truly great fighters don't duck anyone, and if Floyd ducks Cotto, he will wear than albatross around his neck much like Ray Leonard has to do with Aaron Pryor.  Eventually the Mayweather'/Cotto fight will happen, it's fate, it has too or Mayweather's career will always have that blank spot where Cotto's name should have been.

dany, rko and andrew, i agree with all of you.. not enough money anymore for mayfeather (lol), also he is afraid of the lose..he wants to go out undefeated and he knows the longer he fights the more likely he is to lose, theres no money in losing.. so in a sense he is a coward..

I always hear people saying that they want to see Cotto vs Mayweather. Those people should be ready for anything, Either a great fight(which will probably not going to happen) or a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT(I'm 95% sure that's how the fight will turn out.) Mayweather will fight smartly and will not trade punches. He is just going to move back(some people may call it run) and hit Cotto 1 punch at a time. People are waiting and waiting to see this fight. The hype will be great, and your expectations are going to be even greater, which will make the fight seem like a big, HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.

At this point in his career, Floyd may not be looking for the "best" challenger, most of the time Floyd doesn't go with what the people want to see, he may fight Cotto eventually, but maybe after he suffers a loss or may not be the #1 challenge for him, Floyd has so many other things going on, WWE, MMA talk, fake retirements, who knows what's on his mind these days, it's definately not Boxing!
