My filly is w/ her mother and 3 yr old sis. So she has seen them roll. She will act like she is gonna. But doesnt. I have had her since the second she was born. And no one has ever seen her roll. Never any dust or mud on her. I can tell the other 2 have rolled, but not Lilly.

Anyone have any idea?

  1. well our 2 months and 10 days (to be exact ;) ) and he would see his mommy roll but he tried but one day we were in the pasture with him and his mom and she rolled and than he rolled to sooooo i guess it just depends on the horse

  2. i would consider yourself lucky im sur many ppl wish their horses didnt roll lol i know i do

  3. If she at some point in her growth, had a hard time getting her feet organized to get up, then she probably is avoiding the difficulties involved.  It may be that she will develop the confidence later to lay down more, but some horses just prefer not to roll alot.  Of course, you could use the tried and true method for getting a horse to roll...... enter her in a show and bathe her!!  If she can really call herself a horse then she will be out there upside down in no time!!

  4. If this filly is otherwise healthy and sound, I wouldn't worry about it.  It just may be something she prefers not to do.  However, she may decide to roll when she's older.

  5. Well, some horses just WON'T roll! i have a 2 year old filly too and she doesn't roll either! its just something some horses won't do!

  6. Perhaps she doesnt feel the need to roll. I'm pretty positive this is ok and i wouldn't worry too much. If you are rly concerned i would suggest calling your vet. My baby nvr rolled that much and she's perfectly fine good luck and best wishes!

  7. hahaha Slaintefive has a great answer!

Enter her in a show, wash her and get her all primped....SHE'LL ROLL NOW! hahahaha

I do also agree that sometimes it's an effort getting up and down.  She doesn't want to go through such motions.

Some fillies are just to prim and proper to do such things!

Especially if they have long legs!  Too much to get coordinated.

I wouldn't worry. At least you'll know when she IS rolling it's cuz she's sick!
