Why wont my 2007 CRF 250x shift into neutral while it is running? I have to turn it off to go into neutral.?

i have to turn it off to go into neutral. so i cant just sit there and let idle.and its also little hard to shift sometimes

  1. Sounds like you need to service the clutch. Could just need an adjustment.

    Check the lever adjustment as well as the spacer at the case.


  2. Adjust the clutch, Clutch drag

  3. Try on of 2 things. First, try pulling in the clutch lever about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way, and try to put it in neutral. If it goes into neutral, adjust the clutch lever for MORE play. Then, try adjusting the clutch for LESS play in the lever, in other words, the lever pulls the clutch out more as you squeeze the lever.  

  4. Adjust the clutch cable free play.

    When you pull in the clutch lever, you should feel tension on the clutch cable when the lever moves away 1/8".

    OR - to shift gears when sitting still, pull in the clutch lever - rev the engine - let go of the throttle - when the revs just start to slow down - shift (the change in engine RPM

    will un-bind the transmission).
