Hi i just bought a brand new Garmin Nuvi 200W and tried it out for the first time and everything went well.

I try it a second time and something happed to the stickey tape on the bottom of the dash board holder for the GPS because it wont stick at all now. It looks like a small circle of sticky tape on the base and after i used the GPS the first time i replaced the small circular cover that is supposed to protect the stick surface.......i removed the protective cover the 2'nd time i used the GPS base and it wont stick to the dashboard at all.

Does anyone know what i may have done wrong?

Thanx

i will pick a best answer

  1. I have the same unit.  The sticky tape on the bottom of the "dash board suction cup plate" will only work if you stick it to a clean surface.  Once it sticks, it should be left as permenant fixture on your dashboard.  When you need to remove the GPS unit, you can pop the suction cup holder and it will separate from the plate.

If the sticky tape no longer works.  You can always get some double side tape from your local hardware store (or Walmart)and replace the sticky tape that comes with the black suction plate.  3M makes some good double side tape and it will work wonders.  Make sure that you clean the surface of your dashboard before you stick the suction plate to it.  And please let it sit for a while and best overnight before you use it with the GPS.  Also, make sure the plate is mounted on a fairly flat part of your dashboard.

Hope that helps.  I love my Nuvi 200W.

  2. The tape won't stick.. in fact in many states it's illegal to mount it there.. I bought one of those friction mounts - but they make alot of different ones
