Question:

Why wont my PS2 read format (purple) discs?

I was playing my PS2 from 2001 and suddenly when I put my purple disc in, it doesn't do the trick! I've tried putting it vertically, It works! Sometimes... Can you help me use the format(purple) discs horizontally?

  1. yes there is probably something wrong with the lens


  2. there is probably something wrong with the lens that reads the disc. maybe dust is in the way. try using the keyboard dust cleaners and blow it into the disc tray.

    That old PS2 you are using has a dirty laser.

    + Purple Discs are harder to read.

    If you clean it it should read all games fine.

    1. Have to open it up and clean the laser with Rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip.

    (This voids the warranty)

    2. Buy a Good lens cleaner(Make sure its a good one)

    3. Contact Sony, see if they can clean it.

    Ok The thing is Putting Your PS2 Vertical strengthens the laser(I dont know how that works)

    But i read it in some manuals(Gameshark,Ps2 ect.) and this is true.

    So try to clean the laser, it then should work like new again.

    (It should work with Vertical and Horizontal)
